Know How to Nurture Your Breast with Proper Care before it’s Late

Are your breast trying to get your attention these days? Is it for a new bra, or it is something more serious that needs your concerns? Since breast shapes and breast types communicate a lot about your health, you must always pay attention to any abnormalities right there. There are actually a lot of things that your breasts can tell you. So next time, when you see your breasts use any sign to tell you something (may be sometimes for no obvious reason), try to hear what it says. Most of the time, a simple alternation in the breast growth signals a serious underlying ailment.

So before your dynamic duo screams louder, check out if you are also experiencing the following irregularities in your breasts.

Growing Size

A growing size is not always scary. May be it’s just because of your excessive weight gain. Because, breasts are made of fat cells along with glandular tissue, accumulation of fats in the body will also affect the growth of breasts. A growing breast is also a sign of pregnancy (as milk ducts are amassed together for breastfeeding). Along with these, abnormal breast size can also be the reason of birth control pills and hormonal changes related to your menstrual cycle. But make sure that your growing breasts do not have any lump or lesion in it, as this kind of “growth” often becomes cancerous. And if it’s just an oversized breast without any growth, simply grab a new bra.

Diminishing Size

This is pretty common in women, who have lost weight or suffering from receding estrogen levels. Impending menopause can also be the cause. But, shrinkage of breast shape and size can also be related to the growth of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). According to a study in the British Journal of Cancer, a shrinking breast is directly linked with coffee. According to this study, 3 to 5 cups of coffee a day is highly responsible for a diminishing breast.

Shifting Shapes

Though DNA programs of your body, shapes your breast at the time of birth, they get morphed over time. After childbirth, the “breastfeeding” process also plays a major role in shaping up your breasts. Since breastfeeding causes significant ligaments stretch and breakdown of connective tissues, your skin tends to lose elasticity. In this phase, your breast is more likely to develop a tear-drop shape. A good “no-sag” bra can help you deal with the fluctuating breast shapes, but make sure that a shifting shape is not a result of any abnormal growth right there.

Lumps or Bumps

Hormonal changes can make your breasts feel lumpy and bumpy most of the time, but the mass or lump can also be the primary sign of benign cysts to fill with fluid. They can be cancerous too. During menstruation, fibrocystic changes can act upon the normal architecture of the breast, says Gynecologist Lauren Streicher, MD, Associate Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Northwestern University. Do not ignore the painful lumps that appear at the side of the breasts, under the armpits and around the nipples (there can be small and painful blisters around the nipples). Check if your lumps are asymmetrical and tender, as they can be a cause of concern.

Aches and Pains

Aches and pains are not always serious unless it’s associated with lumps and lesion. In fact, most of the time a breast pain can be the cause of acidity. Sometimes it’s due to hormonal imbalance for consuming too much of caffeine (as caffeine aggravates fibrocystic changes). Other possible triggers include a misfit bra, mild trauma, PMS or a consequence of strenuous exercise. Carrying a heavy purse on the same shoulder on a regular basis can also trigger aches and pains. A clinical test is highly recommended for the right diagnosis of the breast pains.

Twisted nipples

Sometimes twisted nipples are the temporary upshot from an ill-fit bra. May be you were sleeping with that. But, if you wake up with such inverted nipples suddenly on one fine morning, do not ignore. Twisted breast shapes might be a telling sign of breast cancer (as the cancerous lesion in the breast can cause breast retraction). Some people are also born with inverted or twisted nipples.

The Verdict

Breasts not only accentuate the charisma of your feminine self, but also cues in underlying functions in your body. While the breast shapes communicate a lot about your health, a simple change in its shape can also be a vital sign of serious ailments in your body.
